nucular option.

I've said it before, but I forget if I did so here:
The term "Politically Correct" was last used without irony on June 23, 1993.
Since then, it's been used to justify every hateful, petty, racist, bigoted, short-sighted and close-minded statement uttered through human lips.

"It may not be (finger motion)Politically Correct(more wiggling fingers), but killing Tutsis makes damn good sense to me.
Hey, I'm just telling it like it is!"

Finally, someone expressed it in a way I appreciate:
"Okay, here's what I said in the RS interview: "He's good at what he does. It's a lot of anti-gay, racist humor -- which people like in America - all couched in 'I'm telling it like it is.' He's in the right place at the right time for that gee-shucks, proud-to-be-a-redneck, I'm-just-a-straight-shooter-multimillionaire-in-cutoff-flannel, selling-ring tones-act. That's where we are as a nation now. We're in a state of vague American values and anti-intellectual pride."

David Cross, in an Open Letter to Larry the Cable Guy

The rest is here:

I don't know if I've ever seen either LtCG or David Cross perform, but this makes me want to see both.

I forgot to mention - oh, so stop using the term "politically correct" in the way you've been using it. The time has passed.

[identity profile] daoistraver.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
well, from what I've seen on Mr. Show, David Cross is hilarious.

Pick up the Blue Collar Comedy Tour - it's a great compillation. And (from what I've seen, which isn't everything) Larry's not that bad; it seems to be a case of Andrew Dice Clay all over again -- people don't understand that a comedian is making fun of people by assuming an exaggerated persona, so they accuse him of being well, all of those things.

I've been wrong before, though.

David Cross is great. Throw some "Mr. Show" in your Netflixx queue. Also, in his comedy tour documentary dvd, "Let America Laugh", you get a nice live shot of downtown Madison, WI!

Lemme know if'n you two are showing up tonight at Tom & I's Cry In Your Beer night.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Will let you know asap -- still awaiting final word from the folks with whom we have previous plans.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've not seen either, so I don't know (and probably don't care ;-)) about LtCG's act. And really, this is one comedian griping at another comedian about what was written in a book about comedy, something I'd probably never read just for that.

The paragraph in particular just struck me :)

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Two people have now said to watch that...I'm queueing it now!

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Noted - Netflix queued! Thanks!

[identity profile] unrepentant.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And that WonderShowzen is too fucking hilarious...

Gotcha. Keep me posted. I'd rather cry on Phaedra than Tom - she smells better.

Not anymore... :o

Fuckin' A, man.

He said, "Someone's psychotic. Someone took too much semiotics." "Furthermore," he thought, "Someone can tzuck my Tzadik," but VT was the opposite of TV. He'd never accuse someone of being PC because it's so frigging dumb to say. The term arose on the Columbus Day Quincentennary when the republic was honest about the conquest and wouldn't party as they had previously promised.

If someone uses a nonoffensive vocabulary that person is considerate, not PC. If someone has a heavy-handed agenda that person is narrow-minded, not PC. Unless you mean Providence College, PC is as meaningless as the president's apology for slavery. Maybe PE should be on the radio and not just in the African-American Norton Anthology.

DC is worth seeing; IMHO, he's the closest thing we have these days to the esteemed Mr. Hicks, although his style is very different and less philosophical..

LtCG I could take or leave from the stuff I've seen. I'm usually irritated or bored within 10 minurtes.

[identity profile] gedanken23.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude i just flipped when i saw you post that. David cross is one of my faves...

Crap, do I have to turn in my smartass license for failure to apply accurate information in my smartassery?

Not if you cover up well!

Can we set up a "Holiday Tree" at the range and use it for target practice??

Right on! oh sorry,

left on, and for my fellow libertarians,

fence-sitters unite!

Good - I still have about 100 rnds of 12 gauge birdshot I need to get rid of...

[identity profile] galateadia.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, Larry doesn't seem that bad to me. maybe his book is worse than his stand-up act? or maybe David Cross is just being a diva (which i can totally see - i love his as a comedian too, but he can be a little bitchy).

[identity profile] i-am-devilbunny.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, what a rant!
But it's definately worth your while to screen Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
I know they were showing it in HBO a lot.
Though Larry is annoyingly funny Hue and I much prefer the dude who's always drinking whiskey.
I can't remember his name, but he made us laugh.
Oh and the crass comercialism of LTCG is obnoxious: In Valdosta you couldn't find a gas station or convienience store that *didn't* have some shit that said Get-Er-Done or whatever.
I don't even know what that means but apparently my red-kneck associates do...

whiskey-drinkin' mofo

Ron WHITE!
WOO HOO!

Caught him live a couple of times.
Funny as hell, he is.

[identity profile] angry-user.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ron White truly is one of the funniest stand-ups I've known. hysterical.

[identity profile] angry-user.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
really. gun range. this weekend. but instead of birdshot, solid slugs through a new (hopefully) Mossberg 590.
Come watch Lori attempt to remain standing while she shoots it. (Scott, you too?)
Barring that (out of the house is GOOD), is tonight's shindig private?

[identity profile] angry-user.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm, I usually can't stand David Cross (don't let that stop you, others rave about how funny he is), but the Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys really are hysterical. Well, to a point. It might have helped if, like me, you grew up in Georgia though.

[identity profile] unrepentant.livejournal.com 2005-12-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Out at Blue Moon Pizza in Marietta. About 8:30ish.
