'The United States is operating "floating prisons" to house those arrested in its war on terror, according to human rights lawyers, who claim there has been an attempt to conceal the numbers and whereabouts of detainees.

Details of ships where detainees have been held and sites allegedly being used in countries across the world have been compiled as the debate over detention without trial intensifies on both sides of the Atlantic. The US government was yesterday urged to list the names and whereabouts of all those detained.

The best way to protect your country is to emulate the worst of your enemies it seems. It's not like the neocons even considered that perhaps being *more* like Saddam than a free republic was a good thing, they just took it for granted that this War on Terror(tm) is "serious business" and can't be left in the hands of free thinking citizens or the legal system of a free republic. They have come to accept Guantaemo as bad, not because it was immoral, but because it was *known to the public*.

I just hope one day, some day - just like there needs to be a serious accounting for Al Queda, there needs to be a serious accounting for those leaders who thought Saddam had a better approach when it came to dealing with prisoners.
