In the sole mall in Ithaca, a small group of us was stepping outside, discussing I don't remember what. My boss, soccer-mom-looking but nicely weird in her own way woman named Teresa, was there, and was telling us all something...I think we had just seen a movie.
Big fluffy clouds of snow fell from the sky, I could feel them hit my face, and we were all amazed -- snow is about as common as oxygen in Ithaca, but as someone wisely pointed out.
"It's August!"
We looked in amazement for a while.
Then we heard screams from across the parking lot. My boss and I ran over, but couldn't find it and couldn't tell if it was panic and fear or someone joking. We found a van, and the back was filled with sleeping bags. She poked around in them, but they mostly seemed empty. We saw a group of teenagers nearby and asked if they'd been screaming. They all smiled and told us they hadn't.
"No."
The van gave off a sort of sick feeling, and I was urging my boss to get away from it.
Something behind the trees shifted. I think it was a big dog.
It was a big dog. It was a big dog.
First day of work today! I'm very excited.
I miss the Greek.
