mind of wax.

Well, this has been fun. So after getting sick at the beginning of the week, something which seemed like a head-cold turned to dizziness mid-week, which had me assuming sinus infection. I went to a doctor and they started using words like 'arhythmia', which I assume has nothing to do with my ability to dance. It was weird that they noticed my heartbeat was off, but said nothing about the fact that I was congested until I re-mentioned it, and then they kinda said "oh yeah" and tacked on an antibiotics prescription.
So now I'm taking antibiotics, "anti-vert" and something to tell my heart to chill.

What's great is that my usual level of misstatements and misunderstandings has effectively tripled in the meantime. I've also missed half the social things I wanted to do this week, and there were about 8 messages on my phone I've not returned.

For what it's worth, I spent the evening following that doctor's appointment freaking the fk out. I hadn't noticed any sort of heart-irregularity until they pointed it out, and then I couldn't not feel it. I do feel more normal today, but I'm looking forward to the dizziness and nausea that I'll get from the pills I just took in order to battle my pre-existing dizziness and nausea.

The Greek has done her usual, exemplary job of taking care of me and dealing with my whining.

The doctors were Korean, but they were at the top of my insurance provider list for my area, and I think there was a communication barrier. They were also playing The 700 Club in the waiting area, which has been known to provoke irregular heartbeats in the past. I think I'll get a second opinion.

when you comment to yourself like this
do you step outside of yourself
or do you just twist in turn in the opposite direction you were facing previously as if having a conversation?

or are you 20 miles away from the orginal destitanation?

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like I'm footnoting myself. Imagine a little me, sitting at my feet, appending something I forgot, or illuminating some detail.
I'm like my own Clippy&tm;.

:/ man. i have that. no fun.

i finally mailed your cd-- we snuck in a copy of the movie replacing delphine, too.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome, thanks!

[identity profile] karmabreeze.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
FYI - Antivert is the same stuff as non-drowsy Dramamine... the drug is actually called "meclizine". No need to bug a doc for a refill if the scrip runs out and you still need it.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks. The pharmacist mentioned there was an over-the-counter version, but the Rx turned out to be cheaper for now (thanks, Aetna!) - but if I end up needing it, I'll definitely check it out.

[identity profile] gedanken23.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
hugs bro!

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
In a totally manly way.

[identity profile] heathrow.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this will work out okay. It's obviously the Pat Robertson that got to you..

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally. All I needed to hear was how evil Civil Liberties were...

[identity profile] jaydedone.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel better soon. Heart irregularities can be especially frightening, but the most important thing about them is detecting them before they become an issue. Is this an irregularity that's due to what you're going through right now or do they think it might be more of an inherent thing?

With luck, your social batteries will be fully recharged by the time I move to town. I'd enjoy getting some time to get to know you.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No clue. I know I had a slight issue in the past, but I recall it being situational. I may just be subceptible to things which make my heart a'flutter.

Thanks, definitely. This scuttled any thoughts of trying to meet when you were here briefly, but I look forward to the longer term opportunity.

[identity profile] pseudovillain.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
arrhythmia is a pretty broad term.

Any clarifications as to which kind? I mean are we talking a few PVC's?
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=11
Because two or three Red Bulls will do that to anyone?

or Afib?
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4451

or what?!?!?!?

Good grief! You just don't say that kind of thing to someone and hand them pills!!!
Which meds?
Beta blockers?
Cause that will drop your blood pressure to nil if you aren't careful.

I hope you get to feeling better.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks - it's Atenolol 25mg.
Yeah, it kinda weirded me out - I'm definitely going for a 2nd opinion this week.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Re-reading this - yeah, no shit! I was in "boom"ARHYTHMIA!"boom!" here's some pills, oh you have sinus problems??? Here are more sure boom boom!

The pharmacist looked a little confused, too.

[identity profile] pseudovillain.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously what does it feel like....

Here...this may help you to know what something looks like...

This is a PVC, ventricle contracts too early.
It will feel like a beat snuck up on you too fast.

Image

Compared to NSR...normal sinus rhythm...
Image

or PAC...coming from atria....

That one doesn't look to off from normal, it is just missing a wave.

I cannot believe they didn't tell you shit.
Hell come over let me listen, I bet I could tell you what it is ....

And Atenolol is a beta blocker....keep an eye on feeling light headed, remember what I said about the blood pressure thing.

http://www.sunderland.ac.uk/~hs0dad/profile/atenolol/what.htm

If you want anymore info, you know I am a plethora of medical knowledge, and would be glad to help you. :)

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks - having a cool, direct medical professional to talk to about this helps my mental state. I'm making an appointment with another MD this week as well (my father's doc, who supposedly kicks ass). I've been taking the Atenolol around dinner, so it won't make me feel funneh at work. Since today is the most normal I've felt in a while, I'm going to try to evaluate tonight if it's making me feel off.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
My totally uneducated guess is that it feels like PVC as described on the linked page and that graph.

[identity profile] pseudovillain.livejournal.com 2005-08-16 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
That is my guess to without even hearing it.
That is actually pretty common.

The thing will be is it every other beat, or once in 488 beats.

HUGE difference.

Like I said caffeine will give ANYONE PVC's, stimulants, etc.

I wouldn't sweat this toooo much, (which is easier said), unless they become symptomatic.

And be sure, speaking of, a doc doesn't just throw meds at you, without a proper evaluation from a cardiologist, to see where and why, not just treat the symptoms.

yo.

[identity profile] ninsun.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that sounds like what i have.

[identity profile] ninsun.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
She told me to ride it out.

I don't know how tolerant you are of ginger [some people detest it] but if you don't mind the taste either eat some sugared ginger when you feel queasy or get some gingerroot [about a two inch piece] and boil it for 10 minutes in a cup of water. Steep it for another 10 then sip on it when you feel ick. Or, if you hate ginger, get some peppermint tea. After the bypass I had I occasionally get queasy after eating... I am never without altoids in either mint or gum form.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, ginger rocks. We used to have bags of candied ginger around for that purpose. Fortunately, since yesterday the nausea from pill-poppin' hasn't been as bad.

[identity profile] orangecone.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, dude. I hope you're all right.

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll leave all of my items resembling amphibians to you!

I think I'll be fine. Nothing like unintelligible medical freakout statements to mess up one's mind! Thanks :)

Do you think it might be lingering effects of the weekend, and the interactions of some of the friends (ie, the troubled teen)?

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It may have led to the diagonosis and the timing. After the heart meds and more time have passed, a second checkup will hopefully tell, and if there are lingering effects, they'll have passed.

[identity profile] nicker.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah!

Feel better!

[identity profile] scottopic.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Am! Thanks :)

[identity profile] morbid-o.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
yikes, best wishes with that! if it's really a problem, it's good that they catch it now, i suppose.

[identity profile] rednikki.livejournal.com 2005-08-15 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that everything works out OK, and that you return to full health soon.

[identity profile] stargaze.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they say tachycardia? Was your pulse rate over 100bpm? Atenolol will slow it down if it was. I hope that all is well and it is nothing serious. Let me know if you want to see the docs I work with. *hug*

[identity profile] thegreyman.livejournal.com 2005-08-23 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy Crap! I'm out of touch for a couple weeks and you're having Heart Failure!!!! Well heart weirdness anyway. Thinking about ya man. Hope you're feeling better by now.
