You are the light and the way
They'll only read about
I only pray heaven knows
When to lift you out

10000 days in the fire is long enough.
You're going home...

You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fist at the gates saying,
"I have come home now!"

Fetch me the spirit, the son and the father,
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.

"It's time now!
My time now!
Give me my -
Give me my wings!
Give me my own wings!"

It's tiring to watch you look for external validation, because it is an eternal dissatisfaction that will devour your soul. Every moment you do this, and every moment you sit there mumbling and meandering about the theory of outside, is time wasted where you should be flying.

*Nod*
Too often I fall to the external validation trap.
These days I hope instead for Epicurean moderation (and Bud's Best Ginger Snaps).

Good point, thanks.

Gotta go now, got some flying to do. Talk to you later.

I think there's a difference between validation and acknowledgement. In my view, the latter is a condition for social interaction, and unless one is truly happy to face life as a hermit, necessary. It all gets pseudo-Lacanian very quickly (and thus, very confusing, at least to me), but if you prime me with liquor, I'll probably go on (and on and on...) about this at great length.

you know the album's connection with Maynard's mohter('s passing)?

You know what happens when you dream of falling? Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you.
And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.

No, I didn't. Wow.

It really says something that this album can make me both dance and cry.

yeah, me too. I should stop even harboring a notion that this band will disappoint me and leave that to people who think that Undertow was their masterpeice.

I don't think another 'heavy' band would ever dare release a song/album with a 2-parter for the vocalist to sing his mother to heaven. I'm not sure if I pick up an icarus reference or if it's just the wings similarity. (I'm the one who might even go so far as to think that the lyrics in red above are a direct reference to her stroke and paralysis)
