How long do you think it usually takes to acquire a house, from say, finding one to buying it, assuming a standard number of negotiation back-and-forths, a few adjustments, standard closing, etc.?

Your mileage may vary.

Cleaning up your credit score in preparation of getting financing: 3-6 months.
Getting preapproved for financing: .5 months
Looking at properties: Varies, depends on how many you might look at. If you look at say 50 houses assume 1 month.
Negotiating on Price: 2 weeks
Closing (time from agreement on price to title transfer): 30 days.
The first thing to break after you are the official owner: 30 seconds.
